I made these felt art patches for an art show in December 2017-January 2018. Each embroidered word art patch or set of patches went along with an embroidered collage print that I also made at the same time.
The process of making these patches included programming in words into my sewing machine, finding power in word repetition, and experimenting with different fabric. These are about shitty feelings about being an artist, rebellion, and disguise. I’ve been feeling very spicy these days and I don’t necessarily think that is a bad thing! The art I am the most proud of are deeply sarcastic or emotional.
All these photos were taken by photographer Danni Peña.
Enjoy.
Most Artists Are Idiots
Black felt, white thread
Created at a self-loathing time of my life.
i <3 the internet, 5″ x 7″ and i h8 the internet, 5″ x 7″

I loved / hated making this set. Just kidding I really enjoyed it. When I am sewing words on my sewing machine, I feel like I am a witch and I am casting a spell. These two patches capture the love/hate relationship betwixt myself and Al Gore’s Internet.
Persistence 8.5″ x 11″ and Resistance, 8.5″ x 11″
Black felt, white thread
I sewed these patches when I was feeling particularly rebellious and fed up with American politics and culture in response to the outside world and angry and violated in my private world.
Wolves Amongst Sheep, 8.5″ x 11″
Black felt, white thread
This embroidered patch has to deal with asking myself ‘Am I a Wolf or a Sheep.’ How does a sheep benefit from this hierarchical system? How does a wolf benefit? I believe I am the wolf. Can I be a good wolf? Or a smart sheep?
Broken then Whole, 8.5″ x 11″
Black felt, white thread
My roommate thought I was going crazy (maybe I was) while embroidering this patch because I repeatedly sewed the words BROKEN BROKEN BROKEN. Until I ended the poetry spell with WHOLE. This patch is also about persistence and resistance as a way towards happiness.
I’ve also been dabbling in making collages that make me feel really happy. These patches will soon come to my TinyPinkShoe shop on Etsy. Stay tuned.
